February, the second month of the year, brought us some simply astonishing moments that we will delve into, a frustrating lead up to the 2020 Presidential Election and a looming threat that has only gotten worse since I did this back in January. But since we aren't ones to promote outright negativity and pessimism, I'll start with the Super Bowl; the first Sunday of the month brought one of the best Super Bowls in recent memory, two young, talented quarterbacks backed with dangerous receivers and two balanced, equally notorious defenses. The game was particularly special because of the Chiefs comeback after going down by 10 points in the second half which was only possible because of the bravery of the men behind those red helmets and the magic of Andy Reid and his team. The final score was 31-20 with the Chiefs getting some late points to extend their lead and the final play wrapped up an enticing season of football full of drama, brilliance, stunning upsets and some of the most exciting games we have ever seen.
The other major event in the entertainment industry came only a week afterwards, the Oscars proved to be very predictable but a big win for Parasite in the Best Picture may potentially spark a change in Hollywood and cinema across the world. Here is a list of the biggest wins; Parasite won Best Picture, 1917 was obviously victorious in the Cinematography category for its wind blowing 'one-shot' method, Laura Dern, Renée Zellweger (although I think Scarlett Johnasson deserved it), Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix took home the acting prizes and Jojo Rabbit and Knives Out won the Writing awards. The night was great as per usual but somewhat overshadowed by the diversity criticism and the need for worldly change which was pointed out in various acceptance speeches.
Now we get on to the rather somber parts of the month.
The road leading up to the choosing of the Democratic Candidate that will be the adversary to Trump in the upcoming election has proved to be a rocky one. The Debate last week saw many of the candidates make a fool of themselves with many celebrities pointing that out online. But over the last few days all the Candidates, Micheal Bloomberg and Elizabeth Warren among them, all dropped out in an attempt to isolate Biden (Obama's vice president) and Sanders who in their eyes are the only hope in defeating the man who currently sits on the President's Chair. Over the last hours it seems that Biden is storming ahead which is a relief to the Democratic supporters who are saying that it's 'Biden or Bust!'
However this isn't even the biggest news of the month, that would be the Corona Virus which has now evolved into a pandemic with people self-quarantining, stocking food, many sports events being cancelled and a hate for handshakes increasing by the day. The spread got so much worse because popular holiday destinations in Northern Italy became a hub for the virus and people, obviously unaware that they had it, brought it back to their home country. This has resulted in all the schools and university's in Italy being closed and a quarter of the population to be in quarantine.
March has proven to be a vital month in the course of this year that will decide the gravity of the Corona Virus and the path that the Presidential Election takes.
